This super-fast Chinese EV is still slower than a 'Ludicrous' Tesla

It's hard to believe, but — even with 603 horsepower — this all-electric Chinese supercar is still slower to 60 mph than a 'Ludicrous' Tesla Model S.

The car in question is called the BAIC Arcfox-7, which is one of the coolest new car names I've heard in a while. Although it's slower than a Tesla, that doesn't mean it's exactly a slouch.

A BAIC Motor Corp. Arcfox-7 concept electric vehicle stands on display at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in Beijing, China, on Monday, April 25, 2016.

The Arcfox will do 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds on the way to its top speed of 186 mph. The Ludicrous Model S, if you don't recall, will hit 60 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds. However, it tops out at 155 mph. So it's a rather well-balanced race.

Neither of them, though, is as quick as the world's fastest EV, the Rimac Automobili Concept_One EV, which will crack 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds.

Speed isn't everything, though. Luckily, the Arcfox has other distinguishing features.

As you might have noticed, it has gull-wing doors, which make quite an impression upon onlookers. Moreover, it invites occupants into a very high-tech and sporty cabin cockpit.

The interior features an airplane-like yoke steering wheel as well as three — count 'em three — screens flanked on all sides by carbon fiber trim.

Those features are pretty ordinary, though. Where the Arcfox distinguishes itself from the rest of the super EV market is with its fingerprint recognition, which presumably prevents someone who isn't the registered owner from starting it.

Sadly, unlike the other super-fast EVs in this story, the Arcfox is just a concept. Still, it — as well as the LeSEE concept — shows that Chinese carmakers are keen to enter the high-end EV realm.
