GoldenHour.One
For photographers, the "golden hour" is the brief window just after sunrise and just before sunset when the light is ideal for shooting. GoldenHour's app takes this concept and fine tunes it into more of an exact science. Put in your location and the app shows you where and when you need to go to get the best-lit photographs. It also provides a forecast for the days ahead based on predicted weather conditions, so you can plan your shoots around the best light.

Hook for iPhone recreates the DJ experience right on your iPhone. The app comes with dozens of sound packs and lets you create your own unique mashups using fine-grained DJ-like controls that are surprisingly easy to use.

Kubic
Kubic is a much trickier puzzle game than you may think. Players must recreate the designs in front of them (which were inspired by M. C. Escher's art) using a set of given blocks. There are 60 different levels -- many of which have more than one solution -- that quickly become trickier and trickier.

Potterize
Potterize allows you to create GIFs that look as if they were lifted straight out of the pages of Harry Potter. Record a three-second clip and the app places it in a newspaper mockup that looks like moving photos from the series. Once recorded, you can share and save the image to other apps.

Power Hover
Power Hover places you on a hoverboard as you navigate a series of dizzying levels while completing challenges along the way. The game's mechanics are simple yet the game's overarching story is surprisingly complex, making the game more addictive than you may think.

Yik Yak
Yik Yak announced an update this week that marks the app's biggest step back from anonymity yet. That app introduced profiles so that users can get to know the people they are chatting with better. You still don't have to use your real identity -- profiles show a random picture, your handle and yakarma by default -- but the app's creators say the new profiles will better help users connect with others in the app.

Zagat
Zagat redesigned its iOS app (an Android update is also in the works) this week with a new look that makes it easier to search for restaurants by cuisine or neighborhood. The app also now provides personalized recommendations throughout the day based on the time of day and your location.
