Lego and Ford have teamed up to create an impressively detailed Lego model of Ford's latest GT supercar participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. This year marks the 50th anniversary the Ford GT40 winning the race, the first time an American car did so. That classic model also got the Lego treatment. The 24 Hours of Le Mans race is an annual car race in France that lasts a full 24 hours. It isn't judged by how quickly drivers go around the track, only by how many laps they can complete before the time is up. That means cars not only need to be fast, they need to be reliable and durable as well. "Durable" isn't exactly what comes to mind when Lego bricks are involved, but hey, it's still pretty cool. Each model took about three weeks to build and use between 30,000-40,000 Lego bricks. They'ill be on display for the public during the race, which takes place Saturday and Sunday. Want a fast way to kill a weekend (pun intended)? Look no further than the Lego Porsche GT3 RS. If you're a sports car enthusiast or not, the Lego Techic replica of the Porsche GT3 RS road-going race-car should prove a delightful challenge. That's because it has 2,704 pieces, including 6-cylinder engine complete with moving pistons and working gearbox. Image: Lego The mind-boggling attention to detail doesn't end with the drivetrain components, though. This 1:8-scale bright-orange beauty boasts red suspension springs, adjustable rear wing and four original-design rims bearing the RS emblem. On the dash, you'll even find a glove compartment containing a unique serial number. Not surprisingly, the two fellows who designed the Lego Technic GT3 RS replica, Andy Woodman and Uwe Wabra, are both Porsche and motor-racing fans. If you're looking to get your hands on one, the kit goes on sale June 1st and is priced at $299.99. Although it's hardly cheap, it's certainly less expensive than the real thing, which starts at $175,900. Have something to add to this story?
