Reddit's emergency shutdown just freaked everyone out
Reddit is coming back online after an outage that lasted more than an hour. The issues began around 3:26 p.m. PT, according to the site's status page, following "a slight issue with a routine software upgrade." Though the company promised to be back online "momentarily," it wasn't until more than an hour later — at 4:57 p.m. PT — when they updated to say "bringing the site back slowly." While it was down, users who tried to visit the site were greeted with a message saying "Reddit is down for emergency maintenance." Other users saw error pages. Unsurprisingly, Redditors did not take the roughly 90-minute downtime well. So what do you do when the front page of the internet goes down? Complain on Twitter, of course. Reddit being down makes the internet feel empty -.- — Cong Shu (@StrifeCro) August 11, 2016 REDDIT IS DOWN pic.twitter.com/rjZz6rubBo — Utorak (@Utorak007) August 11, 2016 Reddit is down. — Troy Osinoff (@yo) August 11, 2016 @reddit is down.
