Chevy's new Camaro ZL1 just got an impressive horsepower bump
We love the multi-talented Camaro SS, even with its paltry 455-horsepower rating. And we've been very much been looking forward to driving its higher performance brother, the Camaro ZL1. When it was unveiled in March, Chevy said it produced 640 horsepower, which is most certainly a mouth-watering amount of American muscle. Turns out, though, it'll make a bit more power than that. Thanks to the 2017 Camaro order sheet embedded below, discovered by Camaro blog Camaro6, we now know its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine will produce 650 horsepower (and 650 pound-feet of torque). For those as bad at math as me, that's a 10-pony bump over previous estimates. Now, this level of performance isn't unheard of in the General Motors stable. In fact, the Corvette Z06 boasts 650 horsepower as well. And the Cadillac CTS-V churns out 640 ponies. Neither of those will be quite as accessible to the masses as the Camaro ZL1. This, as you might understand, makes it even more exciting. Granted, it's not as many horses as the Dodge Hellcat. But, I'll tell you what, I reckon the ZL1 will be not only faster than the Hellcat but also a heck of a lot more civilized and less crash-y. Kudos, Chevy. Have something to add to this story?
