Summer is already in high gear and that means it's time for grilling, traveling and playing in the sun.

Even though the days are longer, you may still need a little help to maximize your time so you can make the most of your summer plans — whatever they may be.

Luckily, there are a raft of handy apps that can help.

Whether you plan to spend your summer traveling the world, chasing the sun or cooking up a storm, these apps will help you make the most of your warm weather plans.

GetMyBoat

Think of GetMyBoat as an Airbnb for boats. The app helps you find boats you can rent at prices you may actually be able to afford. Boat owners list their crafts and users can request to rent them our for a few hours or a few days. The app has listings in more than 160 countries so whether you're on vacation or staying home, you should be able to find something for your needs.

Free: iOS, Android

GrillTime

Nothing ruins a barbecue faster than burned food. GrillTime lets you set specific timers so you can keep tabs on when it's time to flip the burgers and how long you'll need for that perfect medium rare steak.

It also provides detailed instructions and tips that will benefit barbecue masters and grilling newbies alike. It even has an Apple Watch app that lets you do everything from your wrist so you never need to worry about greasy hands again.

$1.99: iOS

Mobile Passport

Nothing kills the end of vacation high faster than arriving home to an epically long line just to get through customs. But U.S. and Canadian citizens can bypass the longest lines at many of the country's biggest airports with the Mobile Passport app.

The app allows you to fill out your customs declaration forms before you arrive and, most importantly, grants you access to an expedited line. It's not available at every international airport in the U.S. yet but many of the biggest ones — including San Francisco, Atlanta, Newark, JFK and Denver — are already using it and more locations are on the way.

Free: iOS, Android

PackPoint

Any seasoned traveler knows packing can make or break a trip. PackPoint uses information about your destination and other factors to help you figure out exactly what you need before you go.

The app suggests a packing list based on the weather at your destination, how long you'll be gone and what you plan to do during your trip. You can customize it further by adding removing items and save lists for your next trip.

Free: iOS, Android

Surfline

If surfing is on your agenda at all this summer, then you'll be well-served with a little extra guidance when it comes to choosing the right spot. Surfline provides comprehensive information about surf conditions at beaches around the world, with wave height, tide info and even live feeds so you can scope out conditions before you go.

Free: iOS, Android

UVLens

Just because it's summer doesn't mean you have to get sunburned. But protecting yourself from the sun is about more than just sunscreen. UVLens provides up to the minute forecasts that tells you how much skin-damaging ultraviolet light is likely to be at any given location.

The app breaks it down hour by hour so you can see when the risk is most high. It also helps you learn more about your skin type and evaluates how likely you are to burn based on the day's forecast.
