Australian brands, venues and particularly fastidious wedding organisers will be able to pay to put their personal touch on Snapchat after the company launched its on-demand geofilter feature Down Under.

First reported by Business Insider, on-demand geofilters allow anyone to create customised filters with club night slogans or birthday messages, for example, so they can be overlaid on people's snaps at a prescribed location.

Australians can now celebrate with a special geofilter for their "party, wedding, business," a company spokesperson told Mashable Australia.

The Los Angeles-based startup is growing its presence in Australia, recently adding Kathryn Carter as general manager of Snapchat Australia. The team consists largely of sales representatives, Mumbrella reported, so adding on-demand geofilters seems like a way to expand its offering for Australian businesses who'd like to connect with Snapchat's young audience.

The new feature, which launched in the U.S., UK and Canada in February, allows branding to be included in the filter, unlike the community geofilters that anyone can submit for particular landmarks or buildings.

According to Snapchat's blog, on-demand geofilter pricing starts at $5 (A$6.59) through its Snapchat On Demand website. The cost is dependent on the size of the location being covered by the filter, as well as the length of time it is available, a Snapchat spokesperson clarified to Mashable Australia

Despite being a paid service, Snapchat still needs to approve the geofilter before it can appear on the app. The geofilter can cover an area the size of a building or up to the size of a few city blocks for up to 30 days. Brands looking to cover whole cities will have to take a look at its sponsored geofilter option instead.

If you're in Sydney or Melbourne, expect to see geofilters celebrating your local area. Snapchat said it had launched around 100 filters to mark the launch of its on-demand feature in Australia.
